Long Island
Stretching from New York City to Montauk Point, Long Island is a both a beautiful haven for its several million residents and a magical getaway for tourists. But aside from its pristine Atlantic beaches, fabulous art galleries and museums, charming restaurants and sweeping golf courses, Long Island is home to some of the most cutting-edge medical practices and procedures in the United States.
Long Island, New York, which encompasses the boroughs of Queens and Brooklyn along with Nassau and Suffolk counties, is home to many “firsts” in medical science. At the turn of the last century, Long Island doctors pioneered the use of bedside teaching, introduced the stethoscope and were some of the first in the world to embrace anesthesia.
More recently, Long Island is now home to the first male infertility clinic in the country and the first natural breast reconstruction clinic, which pioneered the TRAM Flap, DIEP Flap, SIEA Flap and GAP Flap reconstruction techniques. Visiting doctors recently witnessed the first ever 4K super-high definition (HD) laparoscopic surgery, which was performed in a Long Island clinic.
